Description

Cognify is an award-winning game based assessment of cognitive aptitude that is used to measure an individual's ability to acquire, retain and use new information effectively. Cognify offers a positive and immersive assessment experience and is available across any device. Candidates complete a number of engaging mini-games that predict performance across a broad range of roles.

Cognify has been independently validated as a reliable and predictive assessment by a number of external research projects. Various studies have shown that Cognify provides a significant prediction of job performance across a wide range of roles and industries. Cognify has been shown to predict outcomes such as job performance, sales and technical knowledge acquisition.

Cognify has also received external endorsements in the form of a 2016 win in the Serious Games Showcase & Challenge, I/O psychology community recognition, and from several independent studies. Cognify was evaluated on the basis of: innovation in design and application, utilisation of psychological knowledge, organisational impact, sustainability, demonstration of thought leadership and using psychology to create new, different and novel organisational interventions.

Format

There are two versions of Cognify available.

  • 3-game: This version consists of these mini games: Grid Lock, Numbubbles and Proof It. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete (not including tutorials).
  • 6-game: This version consists of these mini games: Grid Lock, Resemble, Short Cuts, Numbubbles, Tally Up and Proof It. It takes approximately 25 minutes to complete (not including tutorials).

Each mini game starts with a tutorial, which candidates can complete as many times as they need.

The 3-game version is available in your Criteria account by default. Please contact your Customer Success Manager to request adding the 6-game version of Cognify to your account.

UCognify is a language-independent version of Cognify. As such, UCognify does not test verbal knowledge, making it easily translatable and ideal for international use. UCognify comes in 2-game and 5-game versions, which take approximately 10 minutes and 25 minutes (including tutorials) to complete, respectively.

Measures

Cognify assesses three underlying abilities that, together, provide an overall measure of a candidate’s cognitive aptitude.

Numerical reasoning: how candidates comprehend quantitative and numerical concepts. Numerical reasoning is important for roles where numbers are used on a day-to-day basis.

Problem solving: how candidates solve problems without prior knowledge. Measuring fluid reasoning is key to predicting candidates' ability to learn quickly and succeed in a role.

Verbal knowledge: how well candidates comprehend verbal information such as spelling, grammar and punctuation. Candidates who perform well on this assessment are likely to have strong reading and writing skills.

Score Reports

Cognify produces a score for each mini-game based on how the candidate performed across various tasks. This scoring comprises a number of metrics (e.g., time to respond) as well as whether the response was correct. Scores on the mini-games are compared to a normative group to arrive at a percentile score.  The overall score is a weighted average of the mini-game scores (the weights depend on which version of Cognify – 6 game or 3 game).

Candidate Experience

Candidates must complete each of the games in the order they are presented. Before starting each game, candidates can complete the tutorial as many times as they need to help them become familiar with the game rules.

The games are fast-paced; candidates may not use a calculator while completing. We recommend that candidates ensure that their device and browser are up-to-date and they have a reliable internet connection.

Some accessibility options are available for this assessment. Please contact Criteria to learn more.
