Coach Bo Usage Guide for Team Members

Updated by Amy Thomas

Use Coach Bo as your confidential, always-available coaching partner to turn your Workplace Insights, Collaboration Guides, and everyday challenges into small, practical actions you can try this week.

Note: Coach Bo Chats are private; Weekly Manager Check-ins are not private and are summarized to management

Effective Bo Interactions

You can always start a confidential Coach Bo Chat by clicking the Bo icon in the bottom-right corner. For the most relevant advice, launch Bo from the page that matches what you’re working on.

Workplace Insights

Use Bo to turn your Workplace Insights into practical actions. Ask Coach Bo:

“What are my key strengths and how can I leverage them in my current role?”

“What’s 1 thing I could try this week based on my personality profile to grow at work?”

“Help me turn one growth area into a small experiment for the next two weeks.”

Write down one “micro-action” Bo recommends and do it within 24–48 hours.

Re-open the same thread next week and ask:

“Help me reflect on what went well and what to change next week.”

“Based on what I tried, what should I adjust?”

“Based on my chat history, suggest a new focus area.”

A colleague’s Collaboration Guide

Ask Coach Bo:

“How can I adapt my communication style to better align with [Name]?”

“What’s the best way to give constructive feedback to [Name]?”

“How can we structure our meetings to work for both of us?”

Check in with the person: “What’s one thing I can do to make working with me easier?”

Your TEAMscan results

Complete the TEAMscan. Go to your team profile and click the TEAMscan tab.

Ask Coach Bo:

“Help me understand our team’s highest and lowest scoring dimensions.”

“What’s one small experiment our team could try for the next 30 days?”

Even as a team member (not the facilitator), you can use Bo to contribute more effectively:

Before a results discussion: “What might my team’s lowest-scoring area look like day-to-day?”

After the meeting: “Help me personally support our team experiment for the next 2–8 weeks.”

Coach Bo can assist you with supporting your team's action plan:

“Give me 2–3 ways I can practice our team’s chosen skill this week.”

“What’s a lightweight way to track whether the experiment is working?”

Teamwork Skills Library

The Skills Library can assist you with everyday work challenges. Ask Bo:

“How can I improve my time management skills?”

“What strategies can I use to reduce work-related stress?”

To get deeper insights, give Bo specific context (project, stakes, what you’ve tried, what “good” looks like). Ask Bo:

“Ask me 5 clarifying questions first.”

“Give me 3 options: low-effort, medium-effort, high-effort.”

“Help me draft the message I need to send.”

Common challenges

Not sure what conversations with Coach Bo are private?

Clicking on the Coach Bo Chats button in the bottom right corner of your Develop account opens a private chat with Bo.

Talking to Bo in the Weekly Manager Check-ins is not private: insights from these conversations will be shared with managers.

Does Coach Bo's advice feel generic?

Provide Bo with some specific details, such as a particular problem you want to work on or request advice about a specific situation you are dealing with.

Tell Bo to ask some clarifying questions first.

Having trouble acting on insights?

If your motivation drops, ask Bo to break your challenge into smaller steps. Every win is a win, even tiny ones: celebrate them, it shows you are making progress.

Next steps

After chatting to Coach Bo, choose one micro-goal (this week), and book a 10-minute calendar block to do it.

Build momentum by setting a recurring Bo check-in (weekly/bi-weekly) to build reflection habits.

Use the 1% better approach: one improvement per week.

You will be ready to move on from “individual use” to “relationship/team leverage” when:

  • You’ve applied one insight consistently for 2–4 weeks, and
  • You’re ready to improve a key working relationship or contribute to a team experiment.
