Test Languages for Candidates
Assessment language
Here at Criteria, all our tests are available in English by default. However, many of our assessments may be completed by candidates in a language that they are more familiar with.
All tests in job available in alternate language
If all of the assessments in the job (across all test batteries in the job) are available in a particular language, you can allow your candidates to choose to complete these in that language.
There are two regional options each for Spanish, French and Portuguese. All assessments in the job must be available in the same region for the assessment centre language to be presented in that language. For example, Spanish (Latin American) and Spanish (Castilian) are treated as different languages in the Criteria system.
- In your Criteria account, create a test battery that includes the assessment/s you want to invite your candidates to complete.
- Create a job and assign the test battery created in step 1.
- Go to the Advanced Settings for the job and edit Languages. Select the default language and add any additional language/s from the list. Save your changes.

*️⃣ If there are no alternate languages available for all the assessments in the job you will not be able to edit Languages. (See alternative process below.)
*️⃣ The invitation email and any other communications sent before the candidate selects their language will be sent in the default language.
- You can now invite your candidates to complete the assessment/s. They will select their preferred language from the options you have chosen.
Candidate experience
If alternate assessment languages have been set, when candidates open the landing page, they will be asked to select their language. Once they begin, they will not be able to change this. All instructions and the assessment will be presented in the language selected.

Some tests are available in alternate language
If some assessments in the job are available in an alternate language, but not all, you can still invite candidates to complete that test in that language. The other test/s in the test battery and the candidate experience will be in English.
To set this up:
- In your Criteria account, create a test battery that includes the assessment/s you want to invite your candidates to complete.
- Contact our Customer Support Team to request that the assessment/s in the new test battery be changed to a different language. Please include the name of the test battery, the assessment/s to be updated and the language to be used.
- Once we have updated your test battery, you will be able to create a job and invite your candidates to complete the assessment/s in that language.
Candidate experience
If the assessments in the test battery are in more than one language, the Candidate Assessment Centre text will be in English. (For example, you select UCAT in Japanese and EPP in English.) Only the tests, including the instructions pages, will be presented in the language you have selected.

Customizable candidate experience content
If you are using the Criteria system default landing pages, exit pages and email templates, these will be translated to the same language automatically. However, the Criteria platform will not translate custom content.
If you are using a custom landing page, custom exit page or email template, we recommend creating this in the same languages as the assessments. For example: providing the text in the default language at the top of the custom page / email template and in the additional language/s beneath this.
