Creating a Job - The Basics

Updated by Amy Thomas

Once you have prepared all the components you will use in your job, you are now ready to create the job.

View a short walkthrough video below.

There are three evaluation tools you can select to include in your job: assessments, video interview and live interview. You may choose to use one, two, or all three of these for your job. The steps below outline how to add each of these to your job. If you are not including one of the evaluation tools in your job, skip past that section in this How To Guide, and go to the next section beneath it.

Create the job

  1. On the right side of the Dashboard or the Jobs screen, click the blue Create a Job button.
  2. Enter your Job Title into the Job Title box – you'll see some recommended job titles in a dropdown as you type.
    1. If you would like to also include an internal reference or job title (optional), click on Internal Reference Name to display this field. Type your internal reference into the field.
  3. Select your evaluation tools. Tick Assessments, Video Interview, Live Interview, or a combination of these, depending on your requirements for this job.
    1. Learn more about how combining assessments and structured interviews strengthens your talent signal by clicking in the link in your Criteria account.
    2. Click on the text beneath video interviews and live interviews to learn more about how these can improve your recruitment process.
    3. If you do not currently have structured interviewing enabled for your account you will not be able to select these here. To learn more about video interviewing or live interviewing, and to schedule a demonstration with your customer success manager, click on Learn More.
    4. NOTE: If you select both Assessments and Video Interview, they will both be automatically added to the Incoming pipeline stage in the job. Your candidates will be asked to complete both tasks within the same invitation. That is, once they complete the assessments, they will move straight on to complete the video interview (or vice versa).
If you wish to separate out these steps in your recruitment process, for example you wish to screen candidates on their assessment results before moving some candidates to video interview, you can change this in your pipeline.
  4. Click Next. At the top of the screen is the job creation progress bar. This indicates how many steps are involved in creating the job and where you are in the process. This will only include the evaluation tools you selected on the previous screen.

Assessments: select the test battery

If you have opted to include assessments in your job, you will be presented with the Job Profiler screen, where you need to select the Test Battery to be used. If you are not using assessments, you will not see this screen and will instead proceed directly to Step 7 below.

  1. There are two tabs on the Job Profiler screen:
    1. Criteria Recommended Test Battery displays the tests that we recommend for the position you have entered. You can search for different test batteries using the keyword search option.
    2. Custom Test Batteries displays the test batteries (groups of tests) set up in your account. If the tests you want to use are not yet grouped into a battery, click Create Custom Test Battery, to create a test battery on the fly.
  2. Click on the test battery for this job, then click Select this Test Battery.
    1. If you are not using structured interviewing (video or live) for this job, your job has been created at this point. Click here to move to the next step. If you are using structured interviewing for this job, continue to Step 7.

Video interview: select the video interview template

  1. If you have opted to include a video interview in your job, you will be directed to the Configure Video Interview screen. If you are not using a video interview, you will not see this screen and will instead proceed directly to Step 9 below.
    1. Select the Video Interview Template from the dropdown list.
    2. Select the Evaluators who will be reviewing your candidates' responses.
    3. Select the Number of Evaluations Required. The scoring for your candidates' responses will not be visible in the platform until this number of evaluators have completed and submitted their review.
  2. Click Next.
    1. If you are not using live interviewing for this job, your job has been created at this point. Click here to move to the next step. If you are using live interviewing for this job, continue to Step 9.

Live interviewing: select the live interview template

  1. If you have opted to include a live interview in your job, you will be directed to the Configure Live Interview screen. If you are not using a live interview, you will not see this screen and will instead proceed directly to Step 10 below.
    1. Select the Live Interview Template from the dropdown list.
    2. Select the Evaluators who will be interviewing your candidates.
    3. Select the Number of Evaluations Required. The scoring for your candidates' responses will not be visible in the platform until this number of evaluators have completed and submitted their review.
    1. You can specify which evaluator will ask each question in the interview. When the interviewers open the Interview Guide to enter their evaluation ratings and notes, they will see who has been assigned each question. This can help the interview run more smoothly, and give the interviewers time to add some notes during the interview.

Your job has been created

  1. Click Invite Candidates. Your job has been created.
  2. If you plan to use your Criteria account's default settings for your job, you can now begin inviting candidates. Click Invite Candidates to add and invite specific candidates.
    1. Open links are not automatically posted to any job posting sites. You will need to Copy Link to paste the open link into job ads, your careers page, an email inviting candidates to apply, or another location.
    2. Note that open links are disabled if Live Interviewing is in the Incoming pipeline stage. This is because you will need to take action to schedule your candidates for the live interview.
    3. Candidates are not automatically sent an invitation email for live interviewing as there is no task for them to complete in the Criteria system. You can still manually add candidates to this step, however you will need to send any messages as a separate step.

Next Steps
