Recommended Score Range Updates

Updated by Amy Thomas

At Criteria, the test batteries and score ranges we suggest are based on:

  • The job requirements information maintained by the Department of Labor’s O*NET database.
  • The latest science and research on testing, job performance, and employee selection.
  • The regulatory environment, including laws pertaining to disparate impact.
  • Our own test and validation data.

All of these factors change over time. We continually review our recommended test batteries and suggested score ranges to ensure that our clients are using the most appropriate assessments which maximize validity, minimize disparate impact, and help build a diverse and high performing workforce.

When updates are made to our recommended test batteries and suggested score ranges, you will see these new batteries and ranges appear when you create new jobs in the Criteria platform.

What do you get with these updates?

A consistent, objective, and rule-based approach to test battery recommendations and suggested score ranges

A set of ranges that is comprehensive, covering almost all O*NET occupations

Suggested score ranges which, on average, produce no disparate impact against any US demographic group

How will existing jobs be affected?

Your existing jobs will not be affected when we update our recommended test batteries and suggested score ranges. The recommendations we make are general in nature, and we encourage clients to select their own tests and set their own score ranges based on their specific needs. For this reason, we don’t update existing jobs when our recommendations change.

If your current test batteries and score ranges are delivering the results you need, then there is no need to make changes to jobs whenever we make an update to our recommended test batteries and suggested score ranges.

If you’ve been using a Criteria suggested score range that has been updated, then your job will retain the previously applied score range, but it will appear in the platform as a custom score range for that job, rather than a Criteria suggested score range. This will allow you to continue to access and use that score range if you wish after the update has been applied to our Criteria suggested score ranges.

What happens when I edit the test batteries or score ranges for an existing job?

When you edit the batteries or ranges for an existing job, you will see the new batteries and ranges come up as recommendations and suggestions, just as if they were setting up a new job.
